About us

The North Wolds Federation was created on July 1st 2014 as a natural progression of the collaboration between Market Rasen Church of England Primary School and Nettleton Community Primary School, two schools that passionately believe in the power of school to school support to benefit the children of Lincolnshire.

The aim of the Federation is to deliver an outstanding education to the children of both our schools.

The two schools share a Governing body, an executive Head Teacher, a School Business Manager and specialist staff including our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator and Subject Leaders.  Both schools benefit from the buying power of the Federation, joint training and professional development. Each site has its own Head of School who ensures the school runs excellently on a day to day basis. Whilst the schools share a lot, they  both retain their own distinctiveness and the things that make them special.

The children from the Federated schools have the opportunity to learn, work and play together throughout the year. Examples of this include shared sports days, exciting educational visits, cross school projects and WOW Curriculum days.

The Governing body is made up of members from both school communities. No matter their geographical location they are responsible for and passionate about the education of all of the children in the Federation.

If you are interested in sending your child to one of our schools, working at one of our sites, brokering school to school support, or joining our Federation please use the Contact us page and we’ll be happy to speak to you.

Governors

The North Wolds Federation has a Governing Body that are responsible for both schools. They are absolutely committed to ensuring that the children in the Federation receive the highest quality education. Governors meet several times a year to make decisions regarding the strategic running of the Federation. In addition to these meetings governors attend meetings regarding resources, curriculum and community and quality and standards.

  • Mr Mike Eckersley
    Chair of the Governing Body
    LA Governor
    26/09/22 to 25/09/26

I have been a governor for nearly ten years and Chair for many of these. I really enjoy my involvement with the school and the opportunity that it brings to help the school be the best that it possibly can be. Both my children attended the school and I firmly believe in the need for parents to be involved in all aspects of the school community. I am married to Rachel, and we moved to Market Rasen in 2008 from Manchester. Since that time I have been active in the town on Market Rasen Round Table, and also running the local Air Cadets. My job as a Business Architect with cloudThing gives me useful skills and experiences that I can transfer to the job of being a governor. I am a keen distance runner and love being outdoors.
  • Mr Andrew Smith
    Executive Headteacher
    Ex-Officio

I am proud to be the Executive Headteacher of the North Wolds Federation. Having held a number of teaching positions in West London and Lincolnshire I became headteacher of Market Rasen Church of England Primary School in September 2010 and then of Nettleton Community Primary School in January 2013.  I am really proud of what our teams have achieved in both of these schools.
  • Mrs Nichola Allerston
Head Of School Market Rasen Site
    Co-opted Governor
    06/10/23 to 05/10/27

I was appointed as Deputy Head Teacher when I first came to the school after working in schools in Lincoln and Cambridgeshire in management roles. As Head of School, I am involved in the day to day running of the school and teaching small groups and individual children.
As a member of the governing body, I have the opportunity to be involved in the decision making to ensure that we provide the best opportunities for all of our children.
  • Miss Dena Jones
    Head Of School Nettleton Site
    Co-opted Governor
    10/01/22 to 09/01/26

Having been appointed Head of School at Nettleton Community Primary School in January 2022, I am thrilled to be working with such a close knit and productive team as the North Wolds Federation. I have previously worked in a large town school in East Lindsey, where I was also a governor. I bring both classroom experience across KS2, and wider implementation of school-wide systems and strategies in that school and through a local Research School Alliance.

I am looking forward to supporting and enriching the already charming environment of Nettleton, and ensuring our children continue to thrive under our care.

  • Mr Daniel Toothill
    Federation Staff Representitive
    01/01/21 to 31/12/25

I started working at Market Rasen Church of England Primary School in 2011 after previously working in Secondary and Further Education. During my time in the federation I have been extremely proud of the achievements and progress that we have made. This is due to the unwavering commitment that our federation staff demonstrate to the pupils, parents and local community. Out of school, I keep very active engaging in numerous sports and love being outdoors.

  • Mr Andrew Howson
    Co-opted Governor
    08/10/22 to 7/10/26

I became a Governor in 2013 as our two daughters started their education at Market Rasen Church of England Primary School and I firmly believe that parent participation is key to the development of both schools within the Federation and their pupils. I am married to Joanne and we have lived in Market Rasen since 2008.   The role of Governor is challenging but rewarding and it is fascinating to get an insight into the effort and commitment needed from all concerned in order to provide a successful and stimulating learning environment.
  • Mr Dave Walker
    Co-opted Governor
    12/07/21 to 11/7/25

My previous experience in both Procurement and Facilities Management help me to support the Federation on infrastructure and services.

I am a governor for the North Wolds Federation having been appointed in late 2017.
Previously I was a governor of Bishop Burton College where I served for 12 years, including a period of 4 years as Vice Chairman.
I live in Nettleton, next door to the school, where I have lived for 26 years, and I work as an agricultural business advisor in a Consultancy in Brigg.
I am a churchwarden of St John the Baptist Church, Nettleton, and also do lay work in the Methodist Churches in our area.
  • Mr Geoff Barnes
    Co-opted Governor
    06/10/2023 to 05/10/27

I have been on the Governing body since 2015 and currently have two children in Market Rasen School.  I am also stepfather to two grown up children, one of whom also attended the school and benefited enormously from her time here.

My day job is deputy director of public health in North East Lincolnshire where I lead of things such as health protection, immunisation and screening, disease prevention and health intelligence.  I am keen to use this knowledge and experience to help the federation maintain its focus on the health and wellbeing of all its children and staff and have provided advice to the school leaders throughout the covid pandemic.

I am passionate that primary school should above all else be a safe and nurturing place which enables children to build the knowledge and emotional resilience that will provide a solid foundation for their future lives.  This is particularly important for children that might have additional learning needs so I am pleased to be the Governor with Special Education Needs and Disability as my lead area.

  • Reverend Claire Walker
    Ex -Officio
    16/10/2019 - Open Ended

Having moved to Market Rasen as the Curate three years ago I have had lots of opportunities to experience the atmosphere, ethos and day-to-day life of the school. As a former teacher and with this time spent with the school I was delighted when appointed as Vicar of the Parish of Market Rasen that I would also be a governor of the school. I'm really enjoying working with the rest of the board and, of course, have a particular interest in the Christian Values underpinning the work we do.

  • Mr Adam Shah
    Foundation Governor
    21/09/2020- 20/09/2024

I have lived in Lincolnshire my whole life, born and raised near Spalding. My family and I had the pleasure of living in Market Rasen between 2018 and February 2020. It therefore gives me great pleasure to be appointed as a Governor for The North Wolds Federation, as the community is one which I feel I can give back to through this role. I am a qualified teacher myself so I am looking forward not only to learning more in my role, but to using my experience to help the school and the wider community. I also hope that my experiences with choral music and Church services will help me to uphold the ethos and values of the school.

  • Mrs Barbara Millington
    Foundation Governor
    10/01/2024- 09/01/2028

I have lived in Lincolnshire since the summer of 2019, when we relocated from Teesside and I took on the running of my own business, having previously been a secondary school English teacher for 16 years. I have a daughter at Nettleton School and a son in nursery and am involved in lots of community groups in the area – we adore living in Nettleton, with all the peace and beauty – and I am committed to Nettleton Community Primary School and the Federation; I am also secretary of the Friends of School. I have a strong Christian faith and I am very much looking forward to supporting the Federation in their values and ethos.

  • Mr Alistair Hopkins
    Co-opted Governor
    05/09/2023- 04/09/2027

I have been in education for over 20 years. I trained as an English teacher, have been a Head of Department in two schools, and have been in senior leadership for 12 years, including working as a headteacher in a local secondary school for just shy of six years. I took a career break in August last year to spend more time with my young family.  I have attended St Thomas’, Market Rasen since we moved to the area in January 2017. I am passionate about all children having access to outstanding education, realising their potential, and ensuring that they have every opportunity to achieve their goals.
  • Mrs Jo Shaw
    Co-opted Governor
    13/06/2022- 12/06/2026

My daughter started at Nettleton Primary School last September and has really settled in and loved her first year there. During the year, I have managed to get involved with fundraising events through the Friends of School and volunteered with swimming and other events. This has enabled me to get to know staff, parents and students. I have recently joined the Governing body and look forward to getting involved in lots of different aspects of the North Wolds Federation. I am a secondary school Maths teacher so have some insight into school life, so hopefully I will be able to support the existing governing body to continue to promote positive outcomes for their students.

    11/12/2023- 10/12/2027

In my role as governor of the North Wold Federation I'm looking forward to getting involved with as many different aspects of governance as I can and ensuring all children have the best opportunities available to them.
